1. President Buhari has said his administration will remain resolute to continue with programmes and plans despite the persistent insecurity in certain parts of the country. He said this in his statement to the nation on January 1, 2022, released on Friday, wishing all a very happy and prosperous New Year.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday signed the 2022 Appropriation Bill of N17.126 trillion into law. The President also signed the Finance Bill 2021, which he said is critical to the execution of the 2022 Budget.
3. At least 12 persons, including 10 women, were abducted when bandits attacked Kerawa village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the wee hours of Friday. A youth leader in the community, Jamil Kerawa, confirmed the incident, saying the bandits operated unchallenged.
4. The Nigerian Government has extended the deadline for the linkage of the National Identification Number, NIN, to Subscriber Identity Module, SIM. Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy disclosed that the deadline was extended by three months.
5. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has tested positive for COVID-19. Bello made this known on his official Facebook page on Friday.
6. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has disclosed its readiness to go ahead with its national convention in February 2022. National Chairman, Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC of the party and Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni stated this Friday in Abuja.
7. Gunmen stormed the Mareri area of Gusau, capital of Zamfara State, on Friday, and kidnapped the wife and two daughters of a lecturer at the Federal College of Education (Technical). They were also said to have carted away property from the residence of the lecturer identified as Dr Abdulrazak Muazu.
8. The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an illegal security outfit where people are killed and buried in shallow graves in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. Arrested were three suspected members of the illegal outfit: Israel Okon,(42); Joe Nwoke Charles(35)and Ishola Kazeem,64.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejoiced with Nigerians on the dawning of the New Year, 2022. The PDP, in a New Year Message through its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, urged Nigerians to use the occasion to rekindle the virtues of love, unity, social justice as well as the quest for good governance in our country.
10. Following concerns raised by President Muhammadu Buhari over the recently signed 2022 Appropriation Bill, Senate President Ahmed Lawan has said the National Assembly was correct in its judgment. Lawan said this on Friday at the Presidential Villa shortly after signing the budget.
